Employee benefits: Workplace counselling to combat stress?
More and more workers are taking up the employee benefit of counselling at work, a new report has revealed.
A larger percentage of the workforce are accessing Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP) than they were four years ago, according to research by Right Management.
The percentage of employers opting for the employee benefits of counselling jumped from 4.36 per cent to 5.37 per cent in the last year.
While the workplace has come under significant economic pressure in the past four years, the sources of employee stress have not changed that much, and the most common issues were anxiety or stress, depression, self-esteem, and interpersonal or relationship issues.
Around 85 per cent of the primary source of the worries of people using the counselling service lie outside the workplace, while just 15 per cent of problems are blamed on work alone.
