We’re pleased to announce Sekinat Adima as the new Deputy Chair of our Board of Governors.

Sekinat was elected to the Board in 2020.

She’s an integrative counsellor whose work has had a particular focus on those affected by domestic violence. She’s also worked on a Department of Work and Pensions initiative that focused on emotional outcomes for children in low-income families who might not otherwise be able to access counselling. She currently delivers training on neurodiversity and working with clients from a racial lens.

Sekinat was elected to the role of Deputy Chair by her fellow Board members.

Excited for journey ahead

She said: “I’m thrilled to have been elected as BACP Deputy Chair. I joined BACP to be the change that I wanted to see and I’m excited for the journey ahead. With the appointment of the new CEO and with all the new trustees who have varied knowledge and experience, I truly believe it can only get better.

“I’m currently the EDI and newly appointed safeguarding link trustee. I hope to continue the work I have been doing so far in supporting the SLT, the Board and staff to redirect the focus on best practice while continuing to uphold BACP's values and best interests at heart.

“My role as Deputy Chair is to support the Chair with their duties and responsibilities, and to help ensure good governance and appropriate division of duties, while taking on delegated tasks from time to time, and acting as a sounding board for the Chair.

Foundation of hope and change

“In the Chair’s absence, as Deputy Chair I will chair Board meetings, see that they’re properly minuted and ensure Board decisions are implemented.  I’m happy to learn lessons from the past and hope to build on a foundation of hope and change.

“I just want to say thank you to my fellow trustees who voted for me, to everyone who put themselves forward and to my predecessors for paving the way.

“I look forward to the work ahead and remain focused on the positivity change and clarity for all.”

Work together

Our Chair Natalie Bailey said: “Sekinat has been a valued and integral member of the Board for the past four years and I’m delighted to see her step up to the role of Deputy Chair.

“As a Board we’re determined to work together to ensure BACP moves forward in a positive strategic direction and deliver on its objectives on behalf of members, the profession and clients.”
