About me and my therapy practice

It is often hard to reach out for help when things are difficult so well done for getting  this far. I work with clients of all ages, particularly young children. I am an integrative therapist and use a variety of approaches including talking, creativity, play and sand-play as well as CBT and mindfulness with clients if they wish.

I help clients to process and not just talk about their pains or struggles,   but respect my clients own feelings  about how they want to work with me.

With children I use play, puppets and art and creativity as well as sandplay to help them process their difficult feelings.  Alongside this I work with their carers in a systematic way to best support the child.

Having done my own extensive therapeutic journey, I know the importance of safety, trust, autonomy and non-judging acceptance  in the work. My client is always in control of their own therapy journey and I value the confidentiality of the work no matter what age, within the limits set by legal and ethical considerations.

I work with bereavement, trauma, abuse, attachment, anxiety, disordered eating, neurodivergent clients, those questioning their gender or sexuality, and those struggling with low self-esteem.

Practice description

I work from  a small cottage in County Down where there are 2 rooms. One is set up for mainly talking therapy; the other for more creative and play based work. But any client can choose where they feel most comfortable.

I can also use a small room in Comber if this is more convenient although this is primarily for talking therapy.

My first session

My initial contact and short assessment is normally made on the phone and we can chat about how I work and what you need. This helps us work out if I am the right therapist for you and to establish if I think I can be of help. If working with a child, it is important that they feels safe and comfortable working with me so I normally ask that you let them come and meet me before the assessment. This initial contact is free.

The first session is an assessment to establish the issues and what you are hoping to work on .

If the client is a child then this assessment  is divided into 2 ; with the parent for half of the session and this can be over the phone if logistics are difficult and the rest of the session is with the child.

A session is 50 minutes although it is known as a therapeutic hour and costs £50.
