It's natural for everyone to experience anxiety in response to life's stressful events. However, seeking professional help for our thoughts and feelings can be daunting. Often, we believe we should solve problems on our own.

By considering therapy, you've taken the first step toward a new approach to managing your issues. Understanding these challenges is the most important part of therapy, but my training and approach also focus on transforming this understanding into making positive and practical changes in daily life. I’ll assist you in gaining a deeper understanding of the challenges and guide you on how to transition from knowing to changing.

I hope the information provided here and on my website offers a clear view of how we can work together to achieve this.

“I wish my partner would appreciate the positives in our life. Communication feels futile; she's defensive, and discussing intimate topics just leads to embarrassment. Since our second child, our closeness has faded, and I don't feel valued. She leans on friends and family, leaving me out. Finding suspicious texts has ruined my trust. I'm frustrated by our inability to move past old issues, despite frequent discussions.”

“I've had a good upbringing, yet feel I can't complain about my problems.I struggle with feeling overly sensitive and constantly burdened by negative thoughts and past traumas.I can't sleep. I feel very anxious in social situations. I keep having flashbacks. My head is filled with intrusive thoughts. I always feel like something bad is going to happen.”

About me and my therapy practice

As an Accredited BACP Counsellor, Accredited Europe EMDR Therapist, Certified Couples/Marriage Therapist, and a member of the British Psychological Society (BPS), I offer therapy services tailored to individual needs.

Individual Therapy

My therapeutic approach is integrative, drawing from diverse theoretical frameworks to tailor sessions according to each client's unique needs. I provide a warm and practical environment to address issues such as Anxiety, Depression, Self-esteem, PTSD, Trauma, and Relational challenges, including those related to work and family issues.I obtained my first Master's degree in Psychology with Distinction in 2009, followed by a postgraduate degree in Psychological Studies in 2016. Continuing my professional development, I completed an advanced diploma course in counselling and EMDR in 2018. Over the years, I have accrued extensive experience, having worked with individual clients since 2009. I've conducted over 4000 successful EMDR and (AI) EMDR sessions with my clients across various settings, including the NHS (IAPT), Charities (Mind), and private practice.

"You were kind and understanding. You challenged me with compassion and sensitivity. I always felt safe with you." - GF

Couples/Marriage Therapy

I specialise in working with relationship-based issues, addressing conflicts between couples or within family dynamics.

My journey in couples therapy began with training at the Tavistock Institute in 2016, followed by certification from the Grove Institute and professional development with Esther Perel.

“I approached Tara because I felt exhausted and helpless in my marriage. In the first session, Tara introduced us to a new communication method (3 steps) that we had never encountered before. By the second session, we were already communicating more effectively. I felt deeply understood and acknowledged by my husband after a long time. Working with Tara has been invaluable, and her sessions have transformed our relationship completely.” SD and MM

Practice description

 Individual Therapy:

I'll encourage you to explore at your own pace within our therapeutic relationship, helping you build meaningful connections in your life. Feeling understood is crucial for healing. Therapy can be tough yet rewarding. With compassion and empathy, I create a safe space for our work together.

"Past therapies left me feeling lost as they never addressed the root issues... Working with Tara changed that. I'm no longer controlled by the past. Tara gave me hope for the future." - J.P.

"Tara's guidance led to profound shifts in my life. With grace and compassion, we've addressed deep wounds. I always feel safe and seen in our sessions. Tara is a truly remarkable therapist and human being." - L.W.

 Couples Therapy:

Many couples struggle because they don't ask the right questions. In our sessions, I focus on helping you ask those questions to uncover root issues for lasting change.

I bring warmth and empathy while being direct, helping you achieve your goals and see the bigger picture. Each session will have a clear plan and regular progress evaluations.

Areas of expertise include:

Improved communication

Understanding escalation in arguments

Conflict resolution

Addressing different parenting styles

Handling differing sexual needs or other sexual issues

Rebuilding trust after betrayal or affairs

Reflecting on past experiences

Understanding how family values and culture impact your relationship.

"Tara's feedback was spot-on. Each session left us inspired and motivated for change." - P&N

My first session

I offer a complimentary 15-minute video Zoom call before scheduling any sessions. During this meeting, we discuss your needs and establish a rapport. I address any questions you may have. If we both feel it's a good fit, we proceed with an assessment session.

 Individual Therapy: What to Expect

In your initial session, we collaborate to devise your therapy plan, ensuring clarity on the counselling process and how we'll work toward your goals. We'll select from the following approaches or a combination, tailored to your needs:

CBT

Person-Centered

EMDR

Parts Work (Internal Family System)

Psychodynamic (Attachment based)

Couples Therapy: What to Expect

While I offer empathy and understanding, I also provide honest observations, which may pose challenges. However, with time, I believe your painful patterns will shift with my guidance.

Our aim is typically six sessions followed by a review. Four sessions are typically couple-based, with the remaining two possibly including individual sessions for each party if therapeutically beneficial. You can end therapy at any stage, continuing past session six only if you see progress.

In our initial session, we explore the issues driving you to seek therapy. You'll start acquiring effective communication skills right from the start. In session two, we typically revisit the initial issue, but with a shift in focus towards the broader perspective (Big Picture) allowing you to identify the root of recurring patterns. The following two couples sessions are tailored to the progress we've made and your current needs. I may recommend tasks between sessions to strengthen these skills and confront old behavioural patterns. I will collaborate with you using a developmental model, incorporating elements from Gottman and Solution-Focused Brief therapy.
