About me and my therapy practice

Hello and Welcome.

I'm wondering if you are feeling a little bewildered and in need of reassurance in your journey to find the right therapist for you, or members of your family. I hope I can help you with this process.

I am experienced, qualified and registered to work with children, young people, adults, families and groups with varying issues or challenges. This includes small support group work with young people or adults who have experienced a significant loss i.e. death of a family member, colleague or student.

In our working together, I will show you kindness, respect and understanding. We will face any challenges and powerful emotions with a trusting and gentle way of working. We will work in a way that focusses on helping you feel safe and comfortable.

Together, we will explore ways to slowly unpack your experiences and safely unravel your stories. Alongside one another we will reflect upon your life with understanding and acceptance; a life lived and your life yet to be lived. This can be done through talking or using methods of creative communication and expression such as art and others forms of creative media: whatever feels safe and helpful for you.

If you are a parent or carer looking for a therapist to work with your child or young person I understand this maybe a very anxious time for you. I do offer family sessions. With your child or young person, they and I will work alongside one another and figure out a collaborative, comfortable and safe way forward. I will work at their pace with with their own individual  experience of life.

I offer creative ways to aid communication and understanding, including sand tray work, puppets, toys, specialised books and communication tools.

Practice description

My career has been based on working with many different people in various settings and communities such as seldom heard groups, including those with disabilities, BAME communities and working with the  LBGTQ+ community.

I began working with children and their parents in the mid 1980s, and also worked with  people accessing an addictions service who were parents. I have supported mothers in a women's prison whilst employed for the Local Authority. Latterly, as a qualified social worker, 27 yrs and counsellor, 7 yrs I have specialised  working in the field of serious illness and bereavement. I have also been a manager setting up services and supervising a team working within this field.

I'm open to and experienced in helping people with a wide range of life experiences and challenges.

Working with clients I offer opportunities for those in relationships including young people and parent/carers to explore their relationships and look at significant ruptures, changes or losses that may have occurred.

I also help people to explore any issue resulting in loss and change including individuals who are thinking about or in the process of transitioning ( young people and adults) or experiencing gender and identity issues, offering opportunities to explore change, loss and a possible different and fulfilling life head.

I have significant knowledge and experience within the field  of anticipatory grief or any bereavement, such as sudden and traumatic deaths including suicides, murders, overdoses  and disappearances. I also work with those affected by incurable/terminal illnesses or impending losses such as redundancies, separation, divorce, miscarriage, loss of a significant role, adoption and those separated through someone in prison.

My first session

Firstly we will have an assessment session. This can be face to face or Skype/phone. There is no charge for this first session.

This offers an opportunity for you to share with me what is concerning you or your child or young person. It gives us a chance to see how we feel being in each others presence face to face/Skype or phone.

I will ask you some questions about your situation i.e.. what is bringing you to therapy, how you are feeling, how you are doing, what is happening for you?

You can say whatever comes to mind and I can gently help you tell your story. You will have some time and space to sense if you could work with me and feel comfortable for us to progress.

I too will have time to assess if I am the right person for you and to help you. We can then plan how we move ahead.
