About me and my therapy practice

I know that you have the potential to grow, learn, adapt, recover and flourish, its just a matter of creating the right conditions.

I am experienced at working with many forms of distress ranging from anxiety, depression, anger, loss, trauma, panic attacks and stress. I understand that these forms of distress can deeply impact on how we feel and function. I also know from experience that it can be hard to know where to start, and how take the first step towards well-being, especially when feeling uncertain, vulnerable or anxious. Therefore, I welcome you to contact me for an initial chat.

Believe it or not ‘being with you’ can be much more effective in the long term than ‘doing’ something to you! At a time when we are feeling increasingly isolated and disconnected, therapy that is based on a relational approach is more revolutionary than ever. As a person-centred therapist, I work collaboratively with you to make sense of distress. I take a holistic view and work to understand your personal and unique circumstances from your perspective.

In person centred therapy, things don’t have to be accepted at face value. We can work in a way that goes beyond the superficial, surface level and the obvious. I don’t follow treatment plans or use diagnostic tools, but I do work with each client to explore their feelings and, if they're ready, explore the deeper layers of emotions and experiences that until this point, have remained unexplored; issues that are unresolved or needs that have gone unmet.

Relationships can feel confusing sometimes and we can be left feeling more isolated. In person centred-therapy, the healing happens within a nuanced, empathic, non-judgmental and transparent relationship. There is no need to feel alone.

You already have everything that you need, the right therapeutic relationship will help you to connect with it.

Practice description

I work in a principled non directive way, what this means is that I wont direct / tell you what to do but will be fully available with you to explore feelings, emotions, and behaviours and thoughts.

My philosophy is non-pathologising, I don't view clients as problems to be solved or objects to be labelled. Each person I meet is a unique individual and I am interested in how the individual experiences emotion, relationship and life itself.

I hold a first class honours degree in person-centred therapy. I continue to enjoy professional development courses that ensure that I am working in a trauma informed way and am not complacent in my practice.

My first session

I offer a  conversation via telephone or by zoom. During this time, we discuss what brings you to therapy, and what you would like to get from the therapy. I will say a little bit about how I work and whether I feel able to support you therapeutically. We  may discuss how frequently you would like sessions and how long you expect to be in therapy for.

If we decide that we feel able to work together, we will compare our diaries and possibly book in the first session.

You already have everything that you need, the right therapeutic relationship will help you to connect with it.

Practice description

My focus is not on why you feel the way you do, but on what you feel. I will value, respect and reflect back to you, your feelings, thoughts, and experiences, allowing you to connect and explore with yourself,  freeing you to find your own solutions. The leading edge of growth is your voice, not the therapists. Your growth will be in your thoughts, your intentions, your wishes and your behaviour. It’s a matter of staying with yourself long enough to hear it.

Much of my therapeutic experience has involved working with trauma such as childhood neglect, rape and sexual abuse. I also work with clients seeking support with bereavement, anxiety, self-esteem and depression, those who are struggling with relationship issues, and stress resulting from belonging to minority groups. I work with clients who experience changeable moods and those who find emotions difficult to regulate or tolerate. Above all, I am experienced at working with people who are in distress or discomfort and feel that they are ready for a change.

I work in a principled non-directive way.  I wont tell you what to do, but I will be fully available to you to explore feelings, emotions and behaviours to create a space where you will feel completely free to be yourself.

My philosophy is non-pathologising, I don’t view clients as problems to be solved or objects to be labelled.  Each person I meet is a unique individual and I am interested in how each individual experiences emotions, relationships and life itself.  However, I do respect that in the current climate, a medicalised diagnosis is often required in order for people to get what they need.

I hold a First Class Honours degree from the University of Warwick and continue to enjoy self development and training courses that ensure that I do not become complacent in my therapeutic practice.

My first session

I offer an enquiry  conversation via zoom or telephone. During this time, we discuss what you would like to get from therapy and how I may be able able to work with you towards achieving that.

If we decide that we can work with each other, we will book a first appointment and we will take a look at the counselling contract together during the first session. .

Practice description

Our sessions will provide the space where you can say whatever it is that is on your mind, you can describe what you have been through. Your feelings are welcome here and can be expressed however you like. It is ok to say them out loud! They wont be judged and you will be heard,  seen and understood from your own frame of reference.

The sessions are an opportunity for you to work out exactly what it is that you feel upset, confused or in conflict about, and will be an opportunity for you to explore what that means for you, and maybe where you might decide to go from here.

Sessions are by telephone or online using the zoom platform. They last 60 minutes and can booked as frequently or infrequently as you need. You are in charge of the intensity and the pace.

My philosophy is non-pathologising, I don’t view clients as problems to be solved or objects to be labelled. Each person I meet is a unique individual and I am interested in how each individual experiences emotions, relationships and life itself.

Practice description

My specialist area is with people who have experienced trauma, neglect or abuse in their life. I also work with people who have low esteem and self-confidence and people who struggle with anxiety.

I work in a way that empowers you to realise your full potential, through careful listening and attunement with your emotions. I believe that you have your own unique story, and this will always be the basis for our sessions. I will be sensitively attuned to hearing YOUR experience and will receive it empathically and respectfully, whatever your situation is. I am here to support you on your chosen journey.

My offer is an honest, open and transparent way of being. I will hold a space for you that feels dependable and trustworthy and we will work at a pace that feels right for you. You will be in charge of the accelerator, the brake and the steering wheel!

Whatever you bring to therapy, my attention is on you as a human being. Experience has taught me that once a person feels heard and understood, they feel better able to understand and offer acceptance to themselves, from here, change will happen.

Much of my therapeutic experience has involved working with trauma such as childhood neglect, rape and sexual abuse.
