About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I am Adjoa!

I am an integrative therapist with a focus on Psychodynamic & Person-Centered counselling.

As a qualified counsellor, I aim to work amicably with all my clients to provide a safe and empathic space where they can feel seen, understood, and listened to. Essential to this process, I believe, is that trust can be built in a warm therapeutic space - whether online or in person.

As a member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapists), I honour the trust placed in me, by my clients, to maintain confidentiality, and to listen to them without any judgement. Understand that, taking those first steps is not a weakness, and like doctors, therapists are trained professionals, governed by an ethical body to protect clients' wellbeing.

I have worked with victims of domestic abuse and violence against women.

I can work with, Low-self-esteem, Relationship issues, Domestic violence & abuse, sexual abuse, religious abuse, anxiety, racial abuse & discrimination, depression, shame, bereavement,  loneliness, Trauma, obsessions, discouragement, and infertility.

Practice description

As a counsellor, my approach to therapy is psychodynamic integrative with person-centred therapy.

I am a trained psychodynamic counsellor, having received my BA (Hons) degree in counselling and theology. As an integrative (person-centred) counsellor, I find that my background of working in both therapeutic approaches only bolsters my practice.

Psychodynamic counselling relates to the in-depth exploration of how past experiences may influence present behaviour. Sometimes these experiences may be related to childhood and/or traumatic events that may have occurred in the past with unconscious, lasting effects in the here and now.

While the person-centred approach enables me to engage with my clients in an equal partnership, exploring more of the client's experiences and feelings, in a supportive and empathetic environment.

Expressing warmth, and trustworthiness is important to me as I totally understand how daunting trusting a stranger with your story can be.

My first session

During our first session, we will cover a few different elements of therapy. Namely, we will assess how we can work together therapeutically and style of therapy compliments your expectation.

We will also discuss the matter of confidentiality, what this means and how it applies to our work together.

The standard charge for the initial session adds up to £30.

I offer concessionary rates to students, the elderly as well as those facing unemployment.
