About me and my therapy practice

I am a warm, empathic and approachable counsellor who can help you with anxiety, depression, relationship/family difficulties, self-esteem, bereavement and other forms of loss.

My approach is integrative, which means brings that I bring together elements of several different psychotherapy approaches. These include the person-centred, psychodynamic, cognitive and existential. My practice is also informed by my training in transactional analysis.

I take the view that there is no single model of counselling and psychotherapy that fits us all. This is why I adopt the integrative approach as it enables me to counsel in a way that is uniquely tailored to you and your situation. It allows me look at the bigger picture with you: to explore how your present has been impacted by your past, and to utilise this awareness to help you to find a way forward.

Building a rapport with you and creating a place where you feel safe, validated and understood is of central importance. Through the counselling relationship I provide support and containment for overwhelming feelings; enable you to reach new levels of insight and understanding in relation to your thoughts, feelings and behaviours; and empower you to effect positive change.

About me:

I trained at the NHS-affiliated Inter-Psyche Training Institute for Counselling and Psychotherapy studies in Dartford and at Wealden Institute in East Sussex. I worked for several years with the NHS before training as an integrative counsellor. I have a keen interest in all aspects of mental health and wellbeing and have worked as a volunteer counsellor for charities including Mid-Kent Mind and Sevenoaks Counselling Service.

My first session

At our first session I will complete a short assessment with you to give me an understanding of what has brought you to counselling. I will ask you more about your current situation, the support network that you have around you, and what you want the outcome of your counselling to be. This will provide a starting point for your therapy.

If you would like to find out more about how I can help you before committing to counselling, I am able to offer a free 20 minute 'getting to know me' telephone call.
