About me and my therapy practice

Hello. First of all, I would like to tell you the following:

You matter. You are more than just a social role, a diagnosis, a breadwinner or a carer. You are more than a stigma, a disability, a behaviour or what people think about you based on your outward appearance. And you are more than your struggles, your feelings of sadness and anger, or the utter despair you might be experiencing. You are not alone and things can be different - take the leap. Because you matter.

MY APPROACH TO COUNSELLING

"Never have I dealt with something more difficult than my own soul."

And that is true for all of us. I am fascinated by people and filled with warmth and admiration about how they tackle each day with such courage and strength, which is especially true for those of us who currently find themselves in a dark place and nonetheless are still here. I want to listen, understand and support those who are in despair, have lost their path or simply are wondering if there is more to life than just functioning every day. And I want to hold the light of hope for people as long as needed, until they can take over again. I want to help people understand themselves better in order to not just see the complexity of their soul, but also what comes with it, its uniqueness and stunning beauty.

The way I aim to relate to people is underpinned by deep empathy, unconditional acceptance, warmth, reliability and consistency as well as the idea of freedom and courage waiting inside all of us to be found and explored.

Furthermore, I am curious and love to learn, thus I continuously grow and develop with each and every single client I had the pleasure to have met. I actively encourage regular feedback and aim to implement derived suggestions to the best of my ability.

If this sounds like something you are looking for, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Ask me questions, and figure out if I am the right person for you. You do not deserve anything less.

Practice description

I offer short-term or long-term counselling, face to face or online, to clients with a variety of current difficulties and/or life stressors. I follow an integrative counselling approach, which means that I do not believe that a single therapeutic approach can benefit all individuals I am working with. Rather, I try to tailor therapy to my client's needs in a person-centred way. I practice online via the platform Zoom as well as face to face using several different premises based in Newark, Nottingham, and Lincoln.

A counselling session with me usually lasts 50 minutes and sessions are weekly. I will try to find a regular time slot to see you each week. However, your needs might be different, and we can negotiate suitable ways of working together between us (hybrid working, fortnightly sessions, etc.). I charge £55 for face to face sessions, and £45 for online sessions. If you are a student or on benefits, depending on the situation I can offer a reduced fee (£10 less).

Regarding my qualifications, I hold two degrees in psychology (BSc, MSc) as well as a postgraduate diploma in person-centred counselling (PGDip). I am familiar with the delivery of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and in my sessions I regularly use interventions from Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Cognitive Analytical Therapy (CAT), Schema Therapy and Psychodynamic therapy. Alongside private practice, I work within the NHS in a mental health setting where I mostly see clients having experienced trauma and I work with them regarding the impact this had on their lives.

My first session

I charge £55 for all face to face sessions. However, I can offer a first session via Zoom for a reduced fee of £30. If you were more comfortable with a telephone call as a first contact, please let me know; the same fee (£30) will apply.

In a first session, the first and foremost aim will be to create a safe and comfortable space to help you talk about what brought you to counselling. Then, I will introduce myself and explain my duty to confidentiality as well as my way of working to you. I will ask you if you can tell me a little bit about your current difficulties and/or potential aims for counselling, and what approach to counselling (times, flexible/regular, long-term/short-term) you have in mind initially. I will listen carefully, take notes and ask further questions to fully understand what is going on for you. After the first session I will give you time to decide if you would like to start working with me. If so, I will send you a therapy contract for you to read carefully and sign if you agree with what is outlined. And then we can start! I am already curious to find where this journey might take us.
