About me and my therapy practice
If you are reading this, then you have been brave enough to reach out, even though you might not even understand why you're feeling the way you are, and are terrified about taking the next step. Sound familiar ? If so, that's okay, because together we can explore your fears and confusion in a safe confidential space.
My name is Maxine and I am a huge people person - openly warm and passionate in my endeavour to walk alongside you on your counselling journey.
In life we all have 'stuff' that we carry, but at times that baggage can become increasingly heavy and difficult to comprehend, or share even with our most loved ones. Often our thoughts become so overwhelming that thinking becomes irrational, and this can lead to a very frightening and lonely place. But guess what ? It's totally okay to NOT feel okay and it's totally okay to feel sad or lost or confused or even just angry about it all! Life can feel suffocating, challenging, debilitating, utterly exhausting ... and so unfair..
But together though, through counselling, without judgement and with acceptance, and at YOUR pace, we can work together to try to help you understand and gently begin to unpack that heavy load, should you choose to work with me.
In addition to my counselling experience, I have spent a number of years working as a Listening Volunteer with The Samaritans, both on the phone and face to face. My involvement here has covered a diverse range of ages, genders, ethnicities and social classes, including prisoners - dealing with issues ranging from sadness and isolation and feeling stuck, right through to self harm and suicidal thoughts/plans.
Practice description
I am a Person Centred Counsellor which means that therapy is directed by you, the client, after all, you are your own best expert, right ?
I won't advise, but I am here to view things from your perspective through your eyes, in an empathic and accepting way, and listen...really listen, in order for me to properly understand your situation. In life people rarely listen, but to be truly heard can have an incredible impact.
My aim is to build enough trust and respect within our therapeutic relationship for you to feel safe enough to work through that heavy load. Then, ultimately for you to move towards feeling lighter, empowered and more in control.
Through working together, essentially it offers you the opportunity for self-growth and to become more confident about who you really are and what is right and best for you.
I offer face to face counselling either short term, medium or long, dependent on each individual's needs.
Reaching out for help and then finding the right person can feel frightening, but at the same time it could prove extremely liberating. So don't be afraid to make that initial contact with me, with no obligation, and let's discover if we can work.
My first session
I offer a free initial, no obligation, 20 minute informal telephone conversation/consultation Here we can decide whether or not we are a 'good fit' and whether or not you might like to schedule a first appointment.
