About me and my therapy practice
I am an integrative transpersonal counsellor, which means I draw together different approaches and consider aspects of ourselves and our experiences, which come from the soul.
I do this because I believe that our symptoms, our patterns and confusions may be telling us something very important - and in time, with careful attention those difficulties can become a gateway to more expansive, more meaningful lives.
You might be feeling stuck or disconnected, have suffered loss, or bereavement, are experiencing problems in relationships, or have a sense of things just not being ok. Whatever is bringing you to therapy, I create a sensitive, respectful space to explore, to be heard and perhaps at times to be challenged - in order to see things differently.
I have a particular interest in the impact of addiction in families; and in understanding the complex grief which can often accompany that experience.
I am also interested in the challenges and potentials of the transitional times in life - such as midlife and menopause.
Practice description
I work at each client’s pace, meeting you where you are and finding creative ways to bring more of yourself and your experience into awareness.
We might attend to dreams, images, sensations in the body (if that feels safe), and other ways to access what needs to be made conscious. We may also talk and reflect for a time - noticing what’s here in the present and how that might be influenced by the past - piecing together your story and what meaning could be held there.
There will be differences between us, which deserve to be honoured. I aim to be open and curious about all that is as yet unfamiliar to me, considering the many and intersecting aspects of identity which impact our experiences of life, including but not limited to gender, race, class, sexuality and body.
My first session
It can be a brave moment the moment of reaching out, and yet with the right support, it can be a moment of both relief and potential.
It’s important we feel we could work well together, so I suggest meeting initially online to talk a little about why you're seeking therapy, what you might hope for and to give you a sense of how it might be to work with me. There is no obligation to continue.
To make an appointment, please email me at helsomcounselling@gmail.com, or call 07860 371284
After this, if we agree to go ahead, sessions are 50 minutes, typically weekly on the same day and time each week.
