About me and my therapy practice

If you are feeling stressed, anxious or unhappy with your life, I can help. You may be feeling depressed or worried. You may be using alcohol or other drugs to cope or escape. You may be troubled by incidents from the past. You may wonder if life is worth it. My approach to therapy is based on valuing you as a whole person. No matter what has happened in your life or how bad you feel I will listen and be alongside you. I am genuine and down-to-earth and I create a warm and non-judgemental environment allowing you to explore your thoughts and feelings safely.

I work in an affirming way, who you are is okay with me. I understand that most people are trying to do the best they can, often in challenging circumstances, or with complicated histories. I will listen without judgement to your story and be alongside you whilst you work out your best way forward. I will not tell you what to do, and I also will not hold to myself information which might be helpful for you. I provide a space for you to explore all aspects of your experience. I do not direct you about what to talk about or try to analyse you. I value you as a whole person when counselling and I aim to build a trusting, genuine relationship based on unconditional acceptance.

Having been qualified since 2006, I have helped numerous clients to make lasting and significant changes in their lives.

Practice description

I have a wide appreciation for the diversity of people and their experiences. I have additional understanding of:

  • gender and sexual identity diversity, including NB and trans
  • living with neuro-diversity (either yourself or a family member)
  • a history of offending behaviour or imprisonment
  • childhood trauma
  • loss and bereavement
  • substance use and addictions

I do not make assumptions about your experiences, but I do appreciate that many people have experienced oppression, discrimination or social marginalisation for various reasons. My therapeutic work seeks to uncover these forms of oppression (where they exist) and identify ways to empower you as a person.

My first session

Getting the right counsellor for you is essential so I offer an introductory session which is free and without obligation. You might like to use this as a 'taster' to get a sense of how I work, to ask questions or find out if I can help with your particular issues. This introductory session is usually on the telephone or through video call.

Thereafter, remote video/telephone sessions last for 60 minutes, and in-person (face-to-face) sessions for 50 minutes. My session fee is £60. I am willing to explore a reduced fee dependant on your personal circumstances.  We will discuss an agreement for working together during the introductory session and/or the first session which includes practicalities such as payments and missed sessions, confidentiality and data protection.

I work with individuals aged 16+ in the Eastbourne area.

About me and my therapy practice

I work from a person-centred perspective in supervision. I have specialist experience supervising professionals who work in the substance use/addiction sector. I am interested in advancing the potency of the person-centred approach within this field of work. I attended an in-house supervision course in 2007 and have many years experience supervising a range of professionals including social work students; project workers; counsellors and psychotherapists.

I have worked as a lecturer in counselling at a local college since 2008 training person-centred counsellors. This incudes teaching and assessment of student counsellors' ability to work therapeutically with others. I work to a high ethical standard and am continuously reviewing my own development and practice.

I strive to create a safe environment where supervisees can explore their work and their own processes without fear of judgement. I work collaboratively, and creatively, honouring the relationships you have with your clients.

I charge £45-60 per hour for supervision.

The BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions states that all members should receive a minimum of one-and-a-half hours per month of clinical supervision.

Please drop me an email if you would like to explore how working together might support your own therapeutic work.
